đ§ The Thirst Is Real: âNot My Cup⌠But Still the Answerâ

I was thirsty.
Not metaphorically at firstâŚjust thirsty. I had been running all day, thinking, processing, trying to make sense of a lot in my life. My mouth was dry, my body tired, and my heart? Even more so.
Right there on the table was a bottle of water. Sealed. Ready. But it wasnât my cup. You know, the one with the straw. The one I liked. Because itâs my cup. The one that made drinking feel... worthwhile.
So, I left the bottle sitting there. I didnât drink. I stayed thirsty.
đĽ Waiting on a Preference
While I was waiting on my preference , I ignored Godâs provision. I had convinced myself I couldnât be satisfied until I had it my way. Sound familiar?
We do this all the time:
- Weâre praying for answers but ignoring the people, the places, and the opportunities God keeps placing in front of us.
- We say we want healing, but we donât like the counselor He sends.
- We want love, but not from the person we think is âtoo oldâ or ânot our type.â
- We want rest, but we keep choosing the hustle because stillness feels too foreign.
What if youâre delaying your breakthrough⌠because itâs not showing up in your favorite cup?
đĄ A Living Metaphor
That water bottle became a sermon to my soul.
I had been doing this in life. And in love . I didnât like the height or the age of the man God sent to love me right. So I went back to what looked familiar. Even if it wasnât right. Even if it almost broke me.
I had provision, but I didnât like the packaging. I had love, but it didnât come in my cup with the straw. So I stayed thirsty⌠for years.
đ§đ˝ââď¸The Spiritual Pattern
This isnât just emotional. Itâs deeply spiritual.
âCome, all you who are thirsty, come to the watersâŚâ â Isaiah 55:1
The invitation is always open. The supply is always available. But we reject it when it doesn't look like what we had in mind.
Jesus was and is the Living Water. But they rejected Him because He was born in a manger. They expected a king. He showed up as a carpenter. He didnât match the delivery system they imagined.
Sound familiar?
đŞReflection Question
What have you left on the table because it didnât come the way you expected?
- Is there a person you've overlooked?
- A job you rejected?
- A city you refused to move to?
- A conversation youâve avoided?
Are you still thirsty because youâre still waiting on your preference, not accepting Godâs provision?
âđ˝ Journal Prompt
âGod, show me where Iâve ignored your answers because they didnât come how I wanted. Help me recognize provision even when itâs uncomfortable, unfamiliar, or humbling.â
đđ˝ Closing Prayer
Lord, forgive me for every time I walked away from what You sent because it didnât come how I expected. Teach me to receive Your blessings in whatever bottle , from whomever You send. Let me not die of thirst because I refused to drink. Heal my heart so I can trust again, see again, and live again. In Jesusâ name, amen.
